In the evening I reached the airport of Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. I had ordered a driver from my hostel to take me from there to my accommodation (which was twice as expensive as I thought).
Socialist monuments are the main sights
Glowing supporters of socialism are in love with Managua because of its many monuments for socialists. On the Avenida Bolivar (named after the famous South American revolutionary leader), on a roundabout, there is a large portrait of Hugo Chavez, the former left-wing president of Venezuela. On a nearby mountain you will also find a monument to Augusto Sandino, a Nicaraguan revolutionary hero, along with the national flag.
Sights are scarce in this city. Furthermore the old cathedral of the city is worth seeing.
In the evening I met a woman from Managua, but she didn't speak any English and with my still bumpy Spanish, we had almost embarrassing communication difficulties.
Already the next morning after 2 nights in Managua I packed my stuff and took the bus to Leon, a city in the north of the country.
