In April 2016 I had already visited Mexico. Now I returned almost 3 months later to visit a big Heavy Metal festival, the Hell & Heaven. Rammstein should be the headliner of this concert.

Missing my plane to Mexico! :/

First I had to return to Mexico. I was still in the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa. From there I took the Tica Bus back to Guatemala, where I wanted to fly to Mexico. Because flights from Tegucigalpa are damned overpriced. I stayed another night in Guatemala City, where the hostel owner and another guest took me to a local restaurant for dinner.

The next morning I drove to the airport and when I wanted to check in for my Interjet flight, the lady at the counter told me that I couldn't check in because I didn't have a return ticket out of Mexico. Shit! So now I had to plan how long I was going to stay in Mexico this time and where I was going to fly back. Angry about this procedure I let my Interjet plane ticket forfeit! This was the first (but not the last) time I missed my plane. Instead I booked a new but much more expensive ticket with Aeromexico at the airport. My return flight was 1 week later to Managua, the capital of Nicaragua.

My flight should take off only a few minutes later. But then the airline announced that my flight was delayed for a few hours. So I arrived in Mexico City early Wednesday morning.

The concert did not take place until Saturday. Before that I visited the crowded old town of Mexico City and a technology fair that was held there.

On the day of the concert I changed my accommodation and moved from my hostel in the old town to an apartment near the event. Otherwise it might have taken forever to get back home after the concert.

Hell & Heaven metal festival

Finally I met up with my Mexican friend, who had already taken care of my tickets and afterwards I bought a festival shirt. As usual at Latin American shows there are 2-3 class tickets (normal, preferred and VIP). I had a "preferred ticket" and so I could get closer to the stage. It cost me 1800 Mexican Pesos (about 88 €).

When we arrived we met more of her friends and the American group Fear Factory was already playing. Afterwards we saw Origin, Bulldozer, Sepultura, Twisted Sister, Behemoth (again disappointing, just loud and a lot of show, but no good sound) and Amon Amarth - awesome! I was also impressed by Ghost, although this music is actually too soft for me. The highlight of the evening was of course Rammstein. Everyone was pushing to the front. Even in our preferred area it was difficult to get further forward, but Rammstein put on such a great show that it was enjoyable even from far away.

The atmosphere at the concert was excellent, the beer poured, even though it cost as much here as at German festivals. Again and again one of the many running vendors came by to sell beer, pizza, etc. I could also see the use of some stronger substances at close range at the festival. Nevertheless the festival was not as crazy as I had imagined. It was also a rather cloudy day, untypical for Mexico.

After the concert ended, the crowds flocked to the exits and taxis. It was good that I had a place to stay right next to it. Or not - my Mexican company told me that this area was dangerous at night. But nothing happened.

Visit of the Chapultepec castle

Until my new departure from Mexico I had 3 days left. I visited the Chapultepec Castle on a big hill in the southwest of Mexico City. It is surrounded by a larger forest area. In addition, the excellent anthropological museum is located nearby, but I saved it for another time.

On the way there I met again one of those funny transporters, which announce via loudspeaker in a childish voice to buy all kinds of bulky waste. Whether it's a cooker, washing machine, mattresses - almost everything can be sold to these people, but especially iron. (see video below)

One day later I went to the airport of Mexico City to fly with Aeromexico to Managua, the capital of Nicaragua.
