After just over 1 month I reached my last stop in Colombia: Ipiales, a small town at the border to Ecuador. There I arrived after a 10-hour bus ride from Cali.

A disney like castle

The town is situated at an altitude of almost 3000 meters. There were no hostels here in this city. So I stayed in a hotel here for the first time again. Definitely not a luxury hostel. The walls were paper-thin and the toilet seat was missing on my toilet, but it was good enough for 1 night! I only wanted to see the "Las Lajas" cathedral anyway.

Early in the morning I drove there and admired the fairy-tale castle that was built over a gorge in the 18th century. I looked at it from all possible angles, from the height, the proximity, the side. It looked better from one side than the other. It reminded me of the beauty of the Disney Castle.

Summary of my stay in Colombia

Then the moment came, I left Colombia with a heavy heart. Only 2.5 months later I returned again! Ecuador was the next country of my journey.

Still today I become enthusiastic about Colombia. Except for the miserable unseasoned food I liked almost everything about Colombia:

- unbelievably varied and beautiful landscapes

- super friendly and curious people, who proudly show their country

- many new and modern hostels

- prices not high

- good & cheap flights within the country

- best coffee in the world
