After we spent 2 days in Sibiu, me and my Bulgarian buddy traveled to Sighișoara, whose unique historical center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is situated in a picturesque location on a small hill. The train ride there took about 2.5 hours.

The birthplace of "Dracula"

The center of the city is so small that it only takes about 1-2 hours to see everything. Most of the tourists visiting the city are day trippers from București or the surrounding cities. Thus, one should be prepared that the small oldtown is totally crowded around noon time, as this is the time when all the tourists from the other cities arrive and leave a few hours later.

The tourists primarily come here in order to see the pastel-coloured buildings, stone alleyways and medieval towers. Fortified walls surround the small old town. Especially famous is the clock tower, the facade of which seems so old that one can almost feel its history. Not far from there, the story of Vlad Ţepeş, the bloodthirsty Wallachian prince from the 15th century, also began. There you can also visit his birthplace. It served Bram Stoker as a model for his Dracula novel.

My Bulgarian travel mate totally wasted

My Bulgarian buddy and I explored the city each on our own. In the evening I was surprised that he didn't come back to the hostel. Finally he came back completely drunk and sat down at my table. He had drunk in some cheap pub with some locals. Even in the hostel he continued his drinking.

I was already in bed when he entered the room, drunk as a skunk. He made so much noise, that I couldn't sleep anymore. He lay down for a while and then got up again to drink even more beer. At some point he started to shout at the receptionist downstairs because he couldn't find his room or his passport anymore. The passport was lying on the floor the whole time. Oh dear!
