Long strip of beaches

Sunshine Coast is the name of a region on the east coast of the Australian state of Queensland. Long sandy beaches, several nature parks and picturesque mountains make the area a centre of tourism. Its urban area spans approximately 60 km and has several coastal hubs like the cosmopolitan Noosa or the hip Caloundra.

Flashpacking on the Sunshine Coast

During the trip from Hervey Bay I met Matilda, a huge cangaroo with beautiful eye lashes next to a road house. I arrived in the Noosa Heads district. There you can find 2 types of people: retired seniors who have built their luxury villas there and casual surfers who come to surf.  It seemed to me quite "posh", chic houses and fancy restaurants everywhere. Also my hostel was rather aimed at flashpackers, i.e. backpackers who don't pay too much attention to the budget. In return they get a super clean hostel, good service or more luxury like a pool. Except surfing and lying on the beach there is not much to do in Nossa Heads. So the hostel is full of well-trained surfers and girls who are keen to land one of these fellas.

National Park with beaches and surfing spots

Worthwhile is a visit to Noosa Heads National Park, through which several hiking trails lead. The majority of them hike the trail along the coast. If you are lucky, you might even see a koala. It is the most popular national park in Queensland and has more than one million visitors per year. A population of koalas lives in the park as well as other mammals. At the scenic cliff called Hells' Gate you get dramatic views and might see turtles, whales or dolphins. Along the way there are many beaches where you can swim and surf. You have to carry your surf board though because theres only hiking trails leading there. The trail I walked on ends at the Noosa Heads main beach where I chilled a bit. Afterwards I got picked up by my shuttle to get back to the hostel.

Intended rape in the bed next to me

On my last night there something disgusting happened in my hostel that I had never experienced before but always feared it could happen. The atmosphere in my hostel was great and I got along well with all my 5 roommates. All except me went out at night to a bar. One by one they finally came back. By now everybody was already back, but I still couldn't really sleep.

All of a sudden the blond German guy got up across from me and a short time later I heard the little Swiss girl in the neighbouring bed screaming out in fear. I immediately turned around and saw the German trying to get into the bed of the Swiss woman. When he noticed that I was observing him he immediately turned around and returned to his bed. All the others were apparently so drunk that they hadn't noticed anything. The next morning he left the hostel early. Actually he had a reservation to return to the hostel a week later, but of course the hostel immediately blocked him because of my testimony too.

German guy urinates on the person beneath him

Already the night before the same German guy started moaning loudly in the middle of the night and shortly after it started splashing from his bunk bed. It began to wet the person underneath. The poor fellow had to flee immediately to avoid being urinated on by the German. Oh boy, you meet some strange people in hostels. He actually fitted well into the image of the casual surfer type with long hair and friendly smile. I actually got along quite well with this German before all this happened, I even saw a movie with him. However I strongly suspect that besides all the weed he smoked and the alcohol he drank, he also took some drugs.
